Lightweight Turbojet Jet Pack With 10 Minute Flight Time

Check out footage of the JB-9, a lightweight Jet Pack in development. Great video, though we were disappointed that the pilot did not attempt to fish during the demonstration.

More details about the flight and the jet pack are here on sciencealert.com.

Awesome Flyboarding Frisbee Catch

I didn't attempt this back when I gave Flyboarding a try, but perhaps I will if I get the chance. A perfect throw and a perfect catch. Is Flyboarding Ultimate the sport of the future?

Jet Pack Update: Jet Packs In Development For Faster Running

Person running aided by a jet pack -- photo capture from video.
Screen cap from the ASU promotional video.
Arizona State University is developing a Jet Pack that doesn't fly but allows users to run more quickly as part of its 4MM (4 minute mile) project. The idea is that U.S. service members could use the technology "a warfare-type arena," according to Jason Kerestes, a researcher on the project. Details and a video of the jet pack in action can be found in this Washington Post story.

A Flight Into the Future!

While on holiday recently off the coast of North Carolina, I got an opportunity to try out flyboarding, perhaps the closest I'll get to flying an actual jet pack until scientists get off their duffs and get serious about the future. Takeaways: 1) Jet packs will be awesome. 2) Leaning back on a flyboard is a not recommended.

Long Overdue Video

The editors of Today in Jet Packs sincerely regret the lack of Jet Pack coverage in the blog as of late. We've been withholding the future, and are deeply ashamed. We will do better, and it starts here:

Technology is Never a Sure Thing...

Despite the advances in Jet Pack technology that occur daily, accidents do happen. Here at TIJP, our motto is "accidents are merely men stumbling into the future." He is one such stumble, caught on tape by the fine folks at Fox:

Flyaway Friday: Grand Canyon Flight

Greetings, High Fliers!

Happy to pass on the news that Swiss "Jetman" (obviously should be "Jet Pack Futurist," but something was lost in translation) Yves Rossy recently completed an eight-minute aerial tour of the Biggest Hole in the Ground in the World. Watch video captured during the flight below or read more about it here.

Is this the future of vacations out of doors? All signs rocket to "yes!"

Yours in flight,

The JetLev Water Jet Pack

I would be remiss in my duties as editor of TiJP if I failed to mention this soon-to-be-available water-powered jet pack. Though it may not be quite the transportation revolution we've been waiting for (and promised) for fifty or so years now (which, of course, is quick airborne personal transportation for going to and from work), it does look like a heck of a lot of fun. Can someone loan me $140,000 and a cottage on a suitable lake? More info here.
